Malta Block 600: the thermal mortar for block masonry
Malta Block 600 is a pre-mixed mortar made of selected hydraulic binders and virgin EPS beads of 2–3 mm. It weighs about 600 kg/m³ when dry and has a conductivity of 0.158 W/mK: it is the laying mortar of the SMARTBLOCK® system and suits any masonry in insulating clay blocks or lightweight concrete blocks.

With a traditional mortar, every bed joint becomes a line that leaks heat through the wall. Malta Block 600 has a conductivity much closer to that of the block, so the joint does not become a thermal bridge and the wall works as one insulating layer.

How to use it
- Mix each bag with 15–18 litres of water for 5–10 minutes, with a paddle mixer or a concrete mixer. Check the water quantity whenever you start a new pallet.
- The substrate must be free of dust, efflorescence, oil and grease. In hot weather, wet the clay blocks first.
- Apply between +5 °C and +35 °C, never in direct sunlight.
- In the SMARTBLOCK® system the first course is laid on cement mortar; all following courses, the sealing of chases and the finishing of openings are done with Malta Block 600.
Packaging and yield
- Bags of 50 litres of mixed product.
- Pallets of 40 bags (44 or 48 on request).
- Yield: 1 bag for about 5 m² of masonry.
- Use within 6 months; if stored properly it keeps its properties beyond 12 months.
